North West Goat Producers
Financial return for a premium farmed meat goat as opposed to a  anecdotal comments from goat producers in the North West of NSW ,voiced concerns about the direction that the goat industry was going, including a number of comments about producers considering leaving the industry.
As a result a decision was made to place an advertisement in the local Gunnedah paper and the North West Magazine inviting goat producers to initiate contact so as a data base of the number of producers in this area could be commenced. This action prompted response from in excess of 40 goat producers resulting in a decision to hold a meeting to discuss the concerns raised .

The first meeting was held 22nd April 2006 with 27 producers in attendance .

Agenda for the meeting was divided into two sections

• Marketing concerns

• Industry Awareness/Promotion

.The group identified their concerns with both the export and local marketing

opportunities.

1. Limited access to markets , for the smaller commercial producer in particular, export opportunities that offer reasonable financial returns and generally bring return orders to the growers. Awareness of these export sales frequently was not general knowledge with no formal data base or organization collating and circulating this information.
2. Limited market access for the local market when smaller producers are less able to use cost-effective marketing strategies.
3. Difficulty in obtaining a reasonable feral goats.
4. Requirement for a strong united marketing strategy. The group expressed concern at the general lack
of understanding of the versatility of goats within farming enterprises.
